Description :

This Request for Proposal solicits proposals from qualified firms to provide engineering and design services for the various transmission lines which SMUD owns, operates and maintains.  SMUD anticipates awarding one contract as a result of this solicitation for a not-to-exceed amount of $2,000,000. SMUD anticipates this contract to be in effect from March 1, 2016 through March 1, 2019.

Part 1 of SMUD’s transmission system consists of approximately 136 circuit miles of 230 kilo-Volt (kV) and approximately 31 circuit miles of 69kV transmission lines connecting SMUD hydroelectric facilities referred to as the Upper American River Project (UARP) located in the Sierra Nevada El Dorado National Forest to SMUD’s service area. This region is characterized as mountainous with elevations ranging from approximately 500 feet above sea level at Folsom California to approximately 6400 feet above sea level at Loon Lake. With a few exceptions, these lines were constructed in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s utilizing the design standards of the period. 

Part 2 of SMUD’s transmission system consists of approximately 240 circuit miles of 230kV, 51 circuit miles of 115kV and 8 circuit miles of 69kV transmission lines within the Sacramento Valley region. Most of these facilities are located in the Sacramento County with elevations at sea level to approximately 500 feet above sea level at Folsom, California. Most of these lines were installed throughout SMUD’s nearly 70-year service history. These lines were designed and built utilizing various design standards of the day.

SMUD is requesting proposals from qualified firms that can provide a level of expertise and experience appropriate for SMUD’s needs. The selected firm shall plan and schedule the work in a matter that completes the work in a timely fashion with a high level of accuracy and quality. SMUD is requesting proposals from firms that have experience: performing engineering and design for construction of lattice towers, steel monopole, concrete monopole and wood pole structures. 

The selected firm shall provide engineering and project management services to SMUD on an “as needed” basis.
